I wanted to shake up my life and go sailing (or learn on the job, so-to-speak) so headed to Florida to crew on a catamaran. This is about how it went or, rather, didn't - and my life since. Hopefully it will lead to a catamaran on the clear aqua blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, watching the sunset, a coconut rum and coke in hand. You must START AT THE BEGINNING of the blog, April 2009, to get the whole story...

IT'S SNOW JOKE!

I was shocked today on the drive to work. There were cars on the freeway with snow on them. SNOW! In APRIL!! On the west coast! At first I thought it might be someone who had driven down from the interior on the Coquihalla Highway, which has a high elevation in areas so can have snow into June. But as I saw more and more I realized it had to have been local. Turns out, Abbotsford had a FOOT of snow fall this morning. ACK!!!

The drive to work can be really beautiful as I come to the Port Mann Bridge. There's a ridge of mountains on the very near horizon right in front of me that I've always loved. If you look closely, you can make out the profile of a man laying down. I used to tell my kids it was Gulliver. But most of the days I have driven to work in the past 8 months, it's been dark when I cross the river. Now that the clocks have gone forward, it's light again but often really cloudy. I've put up some photos so you can see the difference. And maybe you can make out Gulliver (click on the picture to get the full size version).

There's a new bridge being constructed beside the old one. It won't be ready until 2013. I can't wait. The construction has made the commute a nightmare.

Ah well, only one more day to make this drive and then I am off to the land where roads are either made of sand or zig-zag up some crazy hills!
